I am a trained graphic designer and worked in that field for 10 years. I like to create more sculptural pieces that came together from a pattern in nature or simply just fooling around with stones and metal. I love that I can create a piece that comes from my heart and soul with a story behind it and will be worn and passed down for generations to come!<br /><br /><strong>What inspired you to start the shop?</strong><br /><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/CoriluDesigns?ref=si_shop">Corilu Designs</a> came about by chance. I have worked with many mediums over the years and was never really completely fulfilled with any of them. The moment I lit a torch for the first time and melted my first piece of silver, I was hooked! Starting my shop was an easy decision. I knew that I wanted to try something different and start my own business and opening up an online shop seemed to make sense in an age that is so virtual. <br /><br /><strong>What's your best piece of advice for people looking for great online shopping deals?</strong><br />Most online shops have Facebook fan pages where they announce new item listings, special deals and even giveaways! I use my Corilu Designs <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Corilu-Designs/175281702485408">Facebook</a> page for just that. I let my customers and fans know of new listings and special deals happening in my shop. I also offer special discount deals to my Facebook fans only! Surf around and find your favorite shops. (<em>This may take a while since there are so many wonderfully talented artists and shops selling fantastic items online</em>) and become a fan of their Facebook page.<br /><br /><strong>In this recession economy, what are some ways people can still look chic for less?</strong><br />Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! Just like your home, keep the major pieces simple, classic and timeless. Use your accessories to stay current and fresh. I had no idea that it would turn into such a wonderful and challenging journey.<br /><br /><strong>What do you love the most about blogging? Does anything about it stress you out?</strong><br />I really enjoy writing and always have (<em>I was the 3rd Grade Creative Writing Award recipient, you know</em>). I love having a place, other than my own personal journal, to write freely. Blogging has encouraged me to challenge myself as a writer, and I'm thankful for that. I also love the fact that blogging has inspired me to become a better photographer (<em>I just purchased my first DSLR and can't wait to use it!</em>). I also love writing about beauty and beauty products. I have a series called <a href="http://www.joyfullyabby.blogspot.com/search/label/Beauty%20Aisle">The Beauty Aisle</a> (<em>all about hair, makeup, and skin care</em>) that is really fun for me. <br /><br />Nothing about blogging stresses me out. However, I can see how reading other blogs could become stressful because we have the tendency to compare ourselves to others. I try to avoid that by appreciating the talents (<em>writing, crafting, parenting, photography, etc.</em>) of others instead of wishing I had them, too. I'm never going to turn an old t-shirt into a purse, and that's okay! There are a lot of people out there who are doing/writing/creating wonderful things, and I like knowing that I have access to them at all times. I like knowing that I don't have to rely on traditional media for my daily glimpse into the world beyond Salt Lake City. Blogging has expanded my mindset and has been a reminder to me of how diverse (<em>and extraordinary</em>) the world is. <br /><br /><strong>What advice do you have for new bloggers?</strong><br />People have told me that they tried to blog but couldn't figure it out. New bloggers just need to be patient. Learning a platform like Blogger is like learning a new computer program. It takes a little time and the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Also, new (<em>and old</em>) bloggers should never try to imitate other blogs. My daughter will be in school (<em>sniff sniff</em>). My husband and I will be home owners, and I might have to finally face the fact that I am an adult (<em>I still feel like a kid</em>). I'm not sure if we will have more children at this point, but I am hoping to do a lot of traveling in the next few years. I'm also planning on becoming a certified yoga instructor and teaching piano full time. <br /><br />I don't really have a plan for my blog. I'd like to see it grow. People tell me that my blog inspires them, and I love that. It's what keeps me blogging. I'd like to have a bigger audience and hopefully inspire more people. <br /><br /><strong>What has surprised you the most about blogging?</strong><br />Before I blogged, I had no idea how vast the blogging world really is. I thought that blogging was for moms, crafters and political enthusiasts. I never knew that someone like me would fit in so well. I didn't know that this whole other culture existed. I didn't know about giveaways or sponsors or even guest blogging. Getting to know bloggers from all over the world has been a great experience, and I still find myself being surprised at just how many blogs there are out there.

The <a href="http://www.bellissimojewelry.com/">Bellissimo Jewelry</a> collection is full of well-priced items made with quality materials: semiprecious stones, sterling silver, fine silver, gold filled and some silver-plated items. I am a native Texan, and I left the corporate world behind 15 years ago to pursue my true passion -- creating all things beautiful! That is when I not only got into the jewelry business but also the interior design business. I have had these two business up and running ever since.<br /><br /><strong>What inspired you to start the shop?</strong><br />Both in my interior design business and in my jewelry line, I try to create items that everyone can afford and would be proud of. Something does not have to cost a lot of money to have excellent quality and look GREAT! I like to say I create for <em>everyday life</em>. Having two active boys myself and a hubby, I definitely have that everyday life. You don't want to spend a bundle on a sofa and let you kids sit on it and eat, nor do you want to spend a ton on a piece of jewelry and then regret it because it is too expensive to wear for "<em>everyday life</em>." None of my designs are created specifically for any occasion. Each one is created as a sentiment you would see or read and think, "<em>Oh, that is so Susan right now</em>," hence the name, Meant for a Moment. It is most important to me to be unique. All of my designs are hand-drawn or painted by me. My Etsy shop features all of my uniquely illustrated designs, recognized for their whimsical nature and loving sentiments. In my shop, you can purchase custom illustrations, M4aM stationery and illustrated prints. <br /> <br /><strong>What inspired you to start the shop?</strong><br />I was working a really tedious 9-5 job as a graphic designer, and I was yearning for more creativity in my life. Sitting inside the walls of my cubicle was cramping my style, and I didn't feel like I had that <em>glow</em> any more. Illustrating always gave me a glow of confidence, and I had lost it in the mix of my 9-5 job. So I made a deal with myself, 'to be remarkable.' And that's how it all began. On my lunch breaks, I would sketch greeting card designs and write clever, quirky little sentiments all over anything I could find. My mind became consumed with the creations of this card line, "Meant For A Moment." Everything I saw turned into a future card. Friends would catch me saying, "<em>Oh, that would be a great greeting card!</em>" all the time. It was really a fun time. As word spread about my illustrative pursuit, I began to receive inquires about custom illustrations. Soon, I had enough inertia, energy and courage to follow my dream. I left my 9-5 job and created my company, "Meant for a Moment Designs." I opened my Etsy store a few months after I had all my ducks in a row, and it has been a glowing adventure ever since. <br /><br /><strong>In this recession economy, what are some ways people can still look chic for less?</strong><br />I have been hooked on <a href="http://www.pinterest.com">Pinterest</a>, and I have found some amazing hair tutorials that are out of this world. I really love the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/38329863/hold-your-hand-illustrated-print">Hold Your Hand</a> print that reads "<span style="font-style:italic;">It's not going to be easy she said, but if you promise to never let go of my hand I think I could hold onto yours forever</span>" I was falling madly in love when I created this print, and it is actually a drawing of my fiance, Dave, and I -- we're in the midst of planning our wedding for July. It was a super amazing time for me to feel so in love with someone so fast. I actually gave him the print for our first Christmas together, and it is hanging in our bedroom now.

Guest Post: Luck be a (Mad Men) lady

Hello there! It's Jillian from <a href="http://www.cornflakedreams.com/">cornflake dreams</a>, and like Melissa, I am a huge <a href="http://www.amctv.com/shows/mad-men">Mad Men</a> fan. I was so excited to see the show return on AMC last night! As a marketing communications and design professional, it was easy for me to get sucked into the swanky advertising world of the 60s. I admire all the hard work that goes into each episode - all the retro fashion, music and decor is spot-on. It's fun to watch the show with my mom. who will occasionally shout out "<em>your grandmother had a clock like that!</em>" or laugh because a product's packaging brings back a memory from her childhood. Above all, I love the clothing and accessories of the characters. I spent my childhood playing sports and went on to study, then practice, physical therapy. But once the artist flame was lit, there was no extinguishing it. Though I mainly focus on precious/semiprecious gemstones, I also incorporate some Swarovski Crystal and glass from time to time as well as a few unique or vintage pieces. Most of my designs are simple, clean and versatile -- making them great for everyday wear. I love what I do, and I adore each and every customer that passes through my shop.<br /><br /><strong>What inspired you to start the shop?</strong><br />I have been a DIY-er my entire life, and that included making my own jewelry or modifying jewelry that I received growing up. What inspired me to start my own shop first was the encouragement of others. Honest support from others is a powerful tool...especially for those of us who are shy about putting our work out there. My kids really are what brought me out of the woodwork, though. Becoming a mother has made me much more brave. <br /><br /><strong>What's your best piece of advice for people looking for great online shopping deals?</strong><br />This is a hard question as for me... the specific product I’m looking for changes up my shopping style. For products from larger companies that are able to mass produce, I have to confess I hit ebay a lot. I’m a mom who doesn’t really have disposable income, but one thing I can’t skimp on is skincare. <a href="http://buy.dermalogica.com/Default.aspx?gclid=CL-HiYPpza4CFcNrKgodpk3VAw">Dermalogica</a> is one of the only lines that really works for my skin, and I have found the best prices on ebay (<em>shipping included</em>). I do spend time comparing, though, and do a good 30 minutes of searching before I buy. You can find great pieces there, no matter your age, for a good price. You just have to be willing to spend some time there and try on lots of stuff. As for jewelry, if you like the look of real gemstones and handmade, look for brass pieces. Brass is less expensive than sterling silver or gold filled, so you can find some really great pieces for less and still enjoy the quality of handmade. Lastly, I think taking good care of yourself is where style starts. Keep a good skin- and hair-care regimen. There are lots of great ideas online to keep both looking great for a low cost. For example, I am a HUGE fan of lemon juice and baking soda for an exfoliator. It works great, and I have very picky skin.<br /><br /><strong>What is your favorite item in your shop and why?</strong><br />This is such a hard question too. My favorite tends to shift a lot, but right now I would choose any item made with rose gold, like the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/89693545/garnet-necklace-in-rose-gold-filled">garnet necklace</a>, above. It’s my sister’s fault! :)

I couldn’t think of anything that would be “<em>Valentine worthy</em>.” But, then I got to thinking: Isn’t a marriage that lasted almost 25 years and produced two beautiful children enough to call it a love story? And, isn’t a marriage where my husband rubbed my back every single night for those 25 years enough for a love story? What about the memories I carry close to my heart, even today, almost 9 years after his death? All the days spent in the hospital with Melissa during her 26 surgeries ought to qualify us for some sort of place in the annals of devotion! Being able to be with Brian every single day for 4 months during his cancer treatment was indeed a gift for our marriage. Even the ordinary days were special when we were together. There was always laughter in our home and hearts. Even today, long after I ceased being a wife, I can feel him with me every day. I guess ours is a Valentine-worthy love story after all! Every wall post is either an achievement – implicitly stated or subtly implied – or some kind of sentimental reminder about her beautiful life. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">The Ghost</span><br />You were friends, or even best buds, back in high school. You have lost touch until Facebook connected you. Now that you’ve “friended” each other and caught up, you have seized communication again for the past two years. Don’t worry. You won’t miss each other. If you have lived a good life since high school, without your “ghost” friend, you’ll live a good life still.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">The Gossip Columnist</span><br />You ask her, “What’s going on?” She tells you what’s going on with everyone else. None of the information seems significant or has trustworthy resources. In fact, your conversations with her always revolves around someone else’s business, and she seems way too interested in talking about them, for no reason at all.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">The User</span><br />The user has no shame. He invites you to a party across town, but expects a ride, because he has no car. If you don’t offer him a ride, he’ll tell all your common friends about how sorry he is to miss out, right in front of you, until you offer him a ride. He has guilt-ed you into giving him a ride numerous times, but never offers gas, or coffee or some type of nice gesture so you wouldn’t feel used. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">The One-Upper</span><br />You tell her that you have been busy. She tells you that she’s much busier, even though she calls you up Friday nights and talks your ears off until you fall asleep on the phone. Then she’ll call you up next Friday night, strategically on her way to dinner and reminds you again that she’s busy.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">The Promise Breaker</span><br />He has been asking you to meet up for months, but bails out every time you plan something. He tells you that he’ll take you out for your birthday. But when the check comes -- and you offer to pay for yourself to be nice -- he’ll gladly let you. He tells you that he’ll do nice things for you, but then drops off the face of the earth.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Your boss</span><br />If you don’t want someone to see old college photos of you flipping off the camera, chugging beer or doing anything “fun,” unfriend. I create whimsical fabric flower bouquets, boutonnieres, bridal belts, statement necklace and much more.<br /> <br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">What inspired you to start it?</span><br />I had many friends and family members encouraging me to start selling the things I made. One of my dearest friends was my biggest motivator. I talked with my hubby, and he was all for it. Then in September, I had a luxury photographer email me and ask if I could create some boutonnieres based on some inspiration images she had for a stylized shoot. One thing led to another, and she was asking me to make more than just the boutonnieres and offering to sell my bridal goods in her studio. That launched Luxe Boulevard Bridal in full swing.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">What's your best piece of advice for people looking for great online shopping deals?</span><br />Subscribe to you favorites! If you find a vendor you love and value their product, subscribe to them via email. Usually, when they have a sale, they will email their customers and you get first notice. I do this with my favorites, and often those that are members will get a little higher discount, such as 20% off to the public and 25% off to their members. So often I find an outdated something at the thrift store and update it to my liking. Learn to sew. Believe me, you can do it. It just takes practice, like anything else that is new to you. You can spend $40 on a dress at the department store, or $10 on materials and do it yourself. <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/">Burdastyle</a> has tons of free patterns. Tutorials are everywhere online. I often post my own tutorials, sharing the things that I make, because I believe every woman should be able to look and feel her best without straining her bank account. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">What is your favorite item in your shop and why?</span><br />My <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/LuxeBoulevard?section_id=10670370">bouquets</a> are most definitely my favorite items. They are the hardest and most time consuming to make, but their end result always leaves me in awe more than any others.
